Wellness Exams
At White Bear Animal Hospital, we believe that routine wellness exams are the foundation of a healthy, happy life for your pet. These comprehensive checkups let us spot potential concerns early—often before they become serious—and help you stay informed about your pet’s ongoing health needs.
What’s Included in a Wellness Exam:
- Physical Evaluation: From nose to tail, we check your pet’s coat condition, eyes, ears, heart, lungs, and more.
- Lifestyle & Nutrition Review: We discuss diet, exercise habits, and any behavioral changes.
- Vaccination & Preventive Care Updates: Ensuring your pet is current on all recommended vaccines and parasite preventive.
- Lab Testing (If Needed): Bloodwork or other diagnostics to create a complete health profile.

We also offer a Free First New Pet Exam within 30 days of adoption, giving new furry family members the best start possible. For older pets, we recommend senior wellness exams at least twice a year to catch age-related issues early. Whether it’s a new puppy or a gray-muzzled cat, our goal is to help them thrive at every life stage.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should my pet have a wellness exam?
We generally recommend at least one annual visit for healthy adult pets. Puppies, kittens, seniors, and pets with chronic conditions may need more frequent checkups.
Will blood tests be necessary at every checkup?
Not necessarily. Basic bloodwork may be done annually or biannually, especially for senior pets or those on certain medications, to catch issues early.
What if my pet appears healthy—do they still need an exam?
Yes. Pets are good at hiding early signs of illness. Routine exams help detect subtle changes and address potential health concerns before they worsen.
Are there different recommendations for puppies/kittens vs. adult pets?
Younger pets often need more frequent visits for vaccinations, growth monitoring, and developmental checks. Adults typically settle into a once-a-year or twice-a-year schedule.
What can I expect during a typical wellness visit?
We’ll review your pet’s diet, lifestyle, and behavior, perform a nose-to-tail exam, discuss any recommended tests or vaccines, and answer any questions you have.
